Women's Nutrition: Breakfast? What's the Big Deal?
What’s the big deal with Breakfast?
We all know we are supposed to eat breakfast. We’ve heard it can help us lose weight and gain mental clarity in the morning. But why do many of us not take the time to eat in the morning? It could be that in the midst of packing lunches, fixing hair, getting other people dressed, and worrying about our own appearance for the day, breakfast takes a backseat. I mean, who has time to think about survival when we’ve got the flat iron in one hand and a permission slip in the other?
We need food to eat! Our bodies have adapted to having a relatively constant flow of food. No longer are we cavemen who go through periods of starvation and gluttony. Our bodies behave best when we provide them with a constant moderate amount of food. This means that it is vitally important we give our bodies fuel in the morning after fasting through the night.
Boiling eggs to keep in the frig for a quick bite on your way out is a healthy alternative to high sugar cereal bars. A banana during your morning commute is a lot faster and more convenient than a stack of pancakes. Be realistic, no one is saying you need to cook bacon and eggs every morning. Just breaking the fast from the hours of sleep is enough to keep your engine running smoother. Come share your breakfast ideas with other busy women in the Women’s Nest Women’s Forum.
