Women Who Shape Our Lives

I found out today that my grandmother passed away on Monday.  I knew this was coming, she has been sick for a number of years now, but it was still a shock.  After I got the news I started to think about how much she has shaped my life and how little I really knew about her until recently.

I had never thought of her as a strong woman, but then I looked at her life.  She was married young, 18, and survived an extremely abusive marriage for 19 years.  She was a single mother of 4 kids and raised them to be decent adults.  She lost a daughter and raised her two grandchildren.

When I think of her, I can only hope that I have half the strength she did, to not only get through life, but to find ways to enjoy life as well.
