Success with the dress!
First thing on Saturday (after waking up at my own pace - not because a four year old was sitting on my head), I strolled out in my old neighborhood in Brooklyn to grab a coffee and bagel and was able to sit and enjoy it sans interruption (and even read a good portion of the New York Times). Then I headed off to meet my sister in Manhattan to start the marathon dress shopping.
First we hit "The Bridal Garden" which is a place where designers can donate their sample dresses. Lots of very expensive labels but it gets quite picked through. We found one strong maybe before moving on. We paused for a ladies lunch with some friends and then cabbed it to a boutique in the East Village.
She wasn't planning on spending so much $$$ (even though it was a designer sample and thus marked down almost 50%) but when you find "the dress" there is no denying it. The dress she tried on was simply amazing, fit like a glove and wouldn't require one nip or tuck, it was perfect. Of course it doesn't hurt to be tall, slender and busty.
Our last stop was Nicole Miller in SoHo where she tried on one last contender (but alas it could not compare to "the dress") and finally... my moment! I attacked the long glorious line of bridesmaid dresses with zeal. Although there are no official bridesmaids (again, see my first blog "Death of the Bridesmaid") I decided I wanted to find a dress of a certain celebratory nature so I thought this was the place. I did find a super cute, knee length, strapless number in a cool bluish-green that would be great for this wedding and another one I had later in the summer.
So my quest was over. In the end it was the best of both worlds; I was able to get an awesome dress that I myself chose and that I honestly will be able to wear often in the future (unless of course I gain 20 pounds but we will not consider that scenario in this story). The rest of the weekend was just icing on the cake. Got to see my first movie of 2008, go out for Sunday brunch and read "In Style" cover to cover on the train ride home. What more can a girl ask for?
