Spring "Break"?
Or so I thought. OK, it wasn't that bad but it wasn't that good either. First was the weather. The day we arrived we never even left the apartment, it drizzled throughout the afternoon and evening. The following morning we woke up to cloudy skies but did manage to hit Lion County Safari before the real storm hit. The kids liked the safari until my 2 year old got seriously pissed off that she couldn't get OUT of the car to pet the lions and elephants. So for the whole second half we drove at 3.5 mph while she screamed her head off.
When we arrived back at the apartment my four year old was whining about why we hadn't been to the pool yet and since it was just cloudy and not actually raining we decided to try it out. After a good half-hour of wrangling into bathing suits, gathering pool toys and packing snacks (didn't even bother with the SPF) we headed to the pool. Approximately 7 minutes after we got there the skies opened up and the rain started. I wouldn't even call it rain, it was more like monsoon season in India. To see in front of me I had to cup my hand above my eyes. We waited it out under the cabana thing for close to an hour but finally had to make a run for it.
The next day it didn't rain but it was barely 70 degrees and with gale force winds it wasn't the warmest day at the pool. I was hudled under a big towel the whole time while trying to call out periodic encouragement to my kids hanging out with their buckets on the steps of the pool. The main attraction was these little lizards that hang out near the grassy area and we spend a good part of the day "yooking for yizards" as my 2 year old would say.
Finally our last day was warm, sunny and gorgeous. I sat out sans sun protection to try to fry my skin as much as possible before stepping onto the plane so I would have tangible evidence of our trip. So while it was not paradise, it was better than sitting at home. Somewhat.
