Snow day?!? (updated)

Here in the mideast they are calling for quite a bit of snow overnight and into tomorrow. I am conflicted. On one hand I have something scheduled in the morning and it is my younger daughter's day to go to "Moms Day Out," a program she attends once a week (my only four hour stretch of solitude all week). I plan these four hours down to the minute each week, packing in errands, appointments, exercise, shopping, you name it. If schools are cancelled I will be with both kids all day long. That is approximately 10 hours to fill up with somewhat fun and creative activities. For weeks I have been promising my oldest a trip to Krispy Kreme (or, "The Donut Factory" as she calls it). So I could finally cross that off my list. Then there is catching up with friends and their kids we no longer seem to have the time for play dates with anymore. That could be fun for all of us. I remember the nights long ago when I was in school and they were calling for snow. Weighing the chance of cancellation with staying up an extra hour to study for that chemistry test. I was one to usually take a gamble and hope for the best. What joy to wake up and hear those magic words: "Frederick County Schools are cancelled!" Now I am seeing it from the other side. If there is no school tomorrow I won't be jumping for joy but I see possibilities for the day.

The Next Day...

So here I am at 10 minutes to 4:00, just getting online for the first time today. You guessed it...no school! There was also no snow. This whole thing was a lot of hype, guess they were expecting freezing rain but all we had had is a light drizzle. We have had a good day though. First we went to Krispy Kreme, always a quality outing. We brought a friend along and they played pirate adventure with the silly paper hats for over an hour. I thought we were going to get kicked out.

Next it was off to a neighborhood friend's house to hang out with a few families and have a potluck lunch. It was nice to catch up with my girlfriends while the kids worked off some sugar in the basement. Then we headed home for nap, I did some laundry and there you have it. It was nice to have a day to hang out with no real agenda...but I'm hoping we don't have another snow day for awhile!
