Mom does New York

New York City here I come!

Got the go-ahead from my hubby (note that I do not use the word "permission" here because this is not 1950) to go to NYC this weekend...ALL BY MYSELF. Just to clarify - that means without kids! I will be hanging out with some friends and family, doing some wining and dining and shopping with my sister for her wedding dress. If you are wondering why I will not be shopping for a bridesmaid dress, please see my first blog "Death of the Bridesmaid."

The pressure is almost too much. My mind is reeling with all that I want to accomplish. Hard to believe I lived in NYC for five years as a single woman and once upon a time spent hundreds of hours wandering the city as a free woman. How much we take for granted!

The prospect of six sweet hours alone on a train (three up, three back) is almost reward enough. Do you realize how many magazines I could devour in that amount of time? My typical reading time is either mid-afternoon while trying to distract the little ones from ripping the pages out of my hands or so late at night that I can barely see the words clearly. I can't wait to clear out these back issues of Real Simple and Marie Claire that have been collecting dust for months.

So far I have Friday night to meet my sister, her fiancee and some friends for dinner in Manhattan. Saturday will consist of a somewhat early run in Prospect Park (am I being too ambitious here?) followed by dress appointments, ladies lunch in between, and happy hour. Then maybe takeout from my favorite neighborhood spot in Brooklyn. Sunday hope to get in a little shopping of my own and maybe meet grad school friends for lunch. The possibilities are endless...just hope I can fit it all in!
