Half-marathon training day

So...I haven't written too much about my training for the half-marathon I am running on May 4th. I haven't really been talking much about it either, probably it is just in case something happened and my training never really took off and I had to drop out. I hate making excuses for myself. But I am happy to report that things are right on track.

Every Saturday I have been doing my long runs, adding 15 minutes each week. This one was 1:45 and I did fine, especially considering I had 4 drinks the night before and wasn't particularly rested. I am actually in the home stretch. Next week I will do 2:00, the following weekend I am doing a 10K race and the week after is the big day.

I am getting excited about it. Over ten years ago I ran two NYC Marathons that still rate among the greatest accomplishments of my life. It was easy to race frequently in NYC because they have such a big running organization with different kinds of races almost every weekend. I even did "running classes" to get in better shape.

Since the birth of my kids and relocating to Maryland I haven't been involved in racing. In May 2006 I did a 5K (part of the same race weekend as this upcoming half-marathon) and it felt so great to complete it, I even did a lot better than I thought I would. Racing is a great motivator and helps with workouts because you are actually aiming for a goal. I am trying not to be too competitive with myself and just hope to finish and have fun but secretly I will be hoping to finish in under 2:00 - I'll let you know!!
