Graduation Day!

in

My second son's high school graduation was tonight.  Like all graduations, the parents packed into an unairconditioned arena - me, my dh, my mother and my step father - and we waited for the kids to prance in, side by side, with mixed looks of hope and boredom. I watched 476 teens walk into that gym, and could not spot my son. That's the down side of gowns, short hair, and caps. All the kids look alike!

We sat high up on the bleachers, and my 41 year old eyes just couldn't make out the details of the faces from that distance. I picked out three kids who wore the silver rope, calling out their High Honors, and was sure he was one of them. Then they started the procession across the stage. Well...I now have many photos of three strangers on my camera, and none of my boy, Zach. He was the boy sitting between two talkative girls who blocked our view of him. I'm not certain I would have picked him out of the sea of red and black gowns anyway - and when he walked across the stage....my battery died in my camera.  Lovely! On the up-side, we had the pleasure and uncomfortable joy of making due by asking my ex husband to take a photo of Zach in his cap and gown with me and my dh. That was fun!

One more chickadee joins the ranks of college bound students! I'm very proud of my wonderful, bright, and spectacularly handsome son, and sorry that the years have snuck by so quickly. It seems like just yesterday he was tellling me that "for instance" was two words, "frin and stince". I miss those days!

Any other graduation mamas out there?
