Girl Power! Wahooo!
I would like to know exactly when women's bodies became a primary focus for everyone on this earth, and in addition to that, I'd like to know exactly when it became common place for women to have low self esteem because of their bodies. Hmph! I am stumped! Why is this considered okay?
Why is it that men are happy even when they look like bowling balls or peaches, and women have to look like twizzlers to feel acceptable? This baffles me. I think it's high time we take control of our own feelings, as Lisa Fredette's newest blog discussed, but take it a step further, and really start to believe we are beautiful regardless of if we are 100 pounds or 300 pounds!
Women are beautiful people. Period. We are (typically) naturally maternal, which makes us empathetic and loving. We are intelligent and capable human beings. We are creative and innovative. We are roll models, leaders, and followers. The outside of our bodies are important only because they house the insides of our bodies. Granted, we need to maintain healthy insides, but do we need to be judged, and do we need to accept the judgements, of being judged by our outsides? I say, Hell No!
Stand up ladies and look in the mirror. Now look deeper! Do you like what you see? That's what it's all about. Look at who you are not what you look like. Then, if you are pleased with who you are and feel you would like to like what you look like on the outside more, go for it. Exercise, eat right, make a change (or many!). But please, don't teach your daughters, sisters, neices, and friends that losing weight is most important so you "look" better. It's just icing on the cake of who you are!
Be proud! Be Beautiful! Be Female!
