Countdown to race day!

Only four days to go until the half-marathon (which I was very unhappy to learn starts at 6:30 AM!). Last Wednesday I did my final long run, shooting for 2 hours but ending up a couple of minutes short. It was not fun at all I'll tell you that. As soon as I finished I drove straight to Whole Foods and ate about $20 worth of their hot food bar in under 90 seconds.

This past Sunday I did a local 10K race as part of my training. It was overcast and not too hot so the conditions were great. I ended up finding a friend before the start so we decided to run it together. I finished at about 52:30, the results said my pace was 8:19 minute miles and I placed 54th out of 260 women in my age range. Not as good as ten years ago when I was in awesome shape but an improvement over last year at least.

I think 10K is my ideal distance and am now questioning my sanity in attempting to race 13.1 miles at 6:30 AM in the morning no less. Even with young kids I make it a point not to get vertical until after 7:30 AM. If they wake up before that they have to come in my bed and watch Noggin till the clock reads 7-3-0, they have that memorized.

I will give a full report next Monday. For now I am going to relax for the next few days and hope to make it through as painlessly as possible. Wish me luck!
