Children's laughter at any age

As I lay in bed attempting to find sleep, a sound caught my ears.  A familiar, yet rare sound; the sound of children's laughter.

You see, two of the kids are at home, during the week, a very uncommon occurence for sure.  Emily is on a much needed week of r and r.  She's usually at the hospital enduring those grueling, impossible hours that only a first year resident can.  Adam is at home for a bit too.

Their laughter became to much to ignore.  I had to find out just what was going on.  Not wanting to ruin the moment, I snuck downstairs to find them sharing the family room couch.  She stretched out, he sitting in what little space was left.  Of course, Em just had to touch Adam.  Hence, the "stop touching me" games from days gone by ensued!  Even Otto got involved trying to "bite" Em's toes on Adam's command!  The laughter became stronger, louider.  I could barely contain myself.  I watched for only a few moments.  Not wanting to ruin their fun, take away this special moment, I left unnoticed.

As I lay back in bed, listening to tow of our 20 something children playing, I realized that even as adults, children can still play, still have fun with eachother.  They can still be innocent children!

I closed my eyes knowing all was well.
