3 days of school and counting!

Has it really been only three days that the kids have been back in school? For me, it feels like weeks. Maybe that's because I recieved my first, "I've got a headache. Can I come home?" phone call.

URGH! I could not believe it. Of course, if I brought him home, then I'd be starting the pattern and making it easy to miss school. So I took the hard road, and trust me, looking at his little eyes was very hard when I gave him the bad news. I hauled my butt up to school with some Ibuprofin in hand. Loved him up when I got there - hugs and kisses, and lots of, "I'm so sorry your head hurts." Then I pulled the old, "Do you know your older brother has had a headache and stomache ache every day before school for two years? Yes, that's right. And you know what? He never missed a day of school."

That bought me enough of a pause to finish with, "I'll bet the medicine will make your head feel better so you can even play at recess!"

Okay, so he begged after that, wanting to come home and pleaded with his little sad eyes. It was about the hardest thing I've had to do for a long time. But I held firm and told him that "Under no circumstances will I bring you home from school. In fact, as parents, we aren't allowed to take our kids out of school during the first week." Whew, a little white lie? I felt it was okay. Had he been sick, I would have been happy to bring him home, but he was not ill. He simply wanted more home time.

Has anyone else encountered their young ones having difficulty the first week of school? Certainly I'm not alone....right?
